Description
Manjushri Bodhisattva’s image is diverse and can be categorized into different forms, such as the One-Syllable, Five-Syllable, Six-Syllable, and Eight-Syllable Manjushri. The most common depiction is the Five-Topknot Manjushri, named after the five topknots on his head, which represent the Five Wisdoms. Typically, he holds the “Sword of Wisdom” in his right hand and a “Prajna Sutra” placed on a blue lotus in his left hand. The sharpness of the sword symbolizes the ability to cut through ignorance, while the blue lotus represents purity, with the sutra symbolizing wisdom and compassion.
Manjushri is often depicted riding a lion, symbolizing the unparalleled power of wisdom, or seated on a lotus, representing purity and freedom from defilement. In some depictions, he rides a golden peacock, symbolizing soaring freedom and independence.
